Constellium hosted a special event at its facility in Zilina, Slovakia, today to celebrate the plant’s start of production with customers, local dignitaries, suppliers and employees. The plant opened at the end of 2018 and has been expanded from 5,200 square meters to 15,000 square meters to accommodate new programs to supply automakers’ assembly plants in Europe. By the end of 2019, Constellium expects to have 90 employees in Zilina.

The Zilina plant produces aluminium Crash Management Systems and other safety components for several automakers, using advanced techniques for forming, machining, welding and heat treatment, and also features a state-of-the-art quality lab.

Speaking at the event, Constellium CEO Jean Marc Germain commented, “This is another milestone for Constellium and our automotive business, as we continue to expand our footprint worldwide to serve our customers where they are, with the products they need. This new facility will play a role in our European expansion, and allows us to be closer to our customers’ assembly lines.”

Aluminium continues to be a material of choice for automakers to achieve their goals to reduce vehicle weight, improve fuel economy, lower emissions and increase electric vehicle range. Constellium is a supplier of complete aluminium solutions from alloy development and product design to simulation, testing and prototyping in Europe, North America and China.

In addition to the plant in Zilina, Constellium recently expanded its Automotive Structures operations in Dahenfeld and Gottmadingen, Germany, and opened new plants in White, Georgia, USA and San Luis Potosí, Mexico.
