Airware® 2050 T84 plate

Airware® 2050-T84 was developed to provide lower density, higher modulus, and higher corrosion resistance than currently available on incumbent plate alloys such as 7050. Airware®2050 should be considered for parts that need high strength and high toughness levels, such as lower wing structures or heavy gauge parts like frames, beams, spars, or ribs. Airware® 2050 combines high strength, high damage tolerance, and low density in a thick plate product, resulting in unique weight savings potential. 2050 is available up to 6.5in (165mm) in thickness. Contact your Constellium representative for plates up to 8.5in (216mm).

Airware® 2195 T3/T8 plate

Airware® 2195 is available in T8 in sheet and plate as well as highly formable T34 plate that can be aged to the final T82 temper by the end user. Mill aged T84 plates are also available upon request. 2195 is a low-density aluminum alloy, developed to provide a high strength, high damage tolerance and Friction Stir Weldable alternative to currently available incumbent plate alloys.

It presents an excellent balance of high tensile/compressive strength, fracture toughness and corrosion resistance, combined with a 5% lower density and 8% higher modulus of elasticity. Available from 0.125 – 2.25in (3.2 – 57.2 mm), plates are successfully used for both cryogenic and non-cryogenic applications. Low density, high stiffness, very high strength, and good damage tolerance make this plate product a very attractive choice for direct and engineered substitutions in all weight-critical applications.

Airware® 2297 T87 plate

Airware® 2297, a low-density aluminum alloy, was developed to provide high toughness combined with improved fatigue and damage tolerance balance versus incumbent alloys. Spectrum fatigue is typically 3 to 5 times higher than current available solutions. This product is also characterized by 8% higher modulus of elasticity and high corrosion resistance. Airware® 2297 should be considered for fatigue critical components and delivers moderate strength level with high damage tolerance and corrosion characteristics, making it very attractive for frames, spars and bulkheads.

It has been successfully utilized in applications which require cyclical exposure to elevated temperatures, in the 110 °C (230 °F) range. Airware® 2297 plates also have also been used successfully for space applications which take advantage of the lower density and high modulus.

7160 T7351 / 7160 T7451 / 7160 T7651

7160 is an Al-Zn-Cu-Mg-Zr alloy developed in 3 tempers to provide improved mechanical properties and performance relative to legacy 7050-T7451 at intermediate product thicknesses 1.0 - 6.0 inches (25.4-152.4mm).

  • 7160-T7351 delivers improved corrosion resistance (A-rating) and significantly higher fracture toughness compared to 7050-T7451 with the same or better level of strength, and higher levels of both strength and fracture toughness compared to 7475-T7351. 7160-T7351 plates are ideal for machined internal and structural components which can take advantage of improved corrosion resistance to increase inspection intervals and life of parts compared to those fabricated from 7050 alloy, or for applications which require high toughness such as spars and other damage tolerance driven structures, as well as wing skins and other applications currently manufactured from 7475-T7351 plate.

  • 7160-T7451 plates are ideal for machined internal and structural components requiring improved strength and toughness over 7050 alloy while maintaining good corrosion resistance. Potential applications include wing ribs and spars, bulkheads, fittings, and other machined parts. 7160-T7451 is an excellent complement to 7140-T7451, providing a combined coverage from 1.0 - 10.0 inches (25.4-254mm) in thickness.

  • 7160-T7651 plates are ideal for machined internal and structural components, such as airframe bulkheads, ribs, brackets, fittings, and other components, requiring improved strength and toughness over 7050 alloy with moderate corrosion resistance. 7160-T7651 is an excellent complement to 7140-T7651, providing a combined coverage from 1.0 - 10.0 inches (25.4- 54mm) in thickness.

7140 T7651 / 7140 T7451

7140 is an Al-Mg-Zn-Cu-Zr alloy, developed to provide an improved strength toughness balance versus baseline 7050 and 7010 alloys in thick plates from 4.0 - 10.0 inches (101.6-254mm). 7140 plates demonstrate low residual stresses and provide good machining characteristics with minimal distortion and excellent surface quality.

  • 7140-T7651 plates are ideal for structures in need of improved strength and toughness over 7050-T7451 with moderate corrosion resistance, such as airframe bulkheads, spars, or ribs. Available in rolled, stretched thicknesses up to 10in (254 mm), 7140-T7651 enables monolithic machined internal and structural components, a cost- effective replacement for built-up or forged structures.

  • 7140-T7451 plates are ideal for applications benefiting from improved toughness and strength over baseline alloys with good corrosion resistance, including wing spars, ribs, bulkheads, and fuselage frames. 7140-T7451 is available in very thick sections, providing weight saving opportunities through consolidation of built-up structures or substitution for legacy alloy plates and forgings.

7040 T7451

7040-T7451 plates deliver an improved strength toughness balance versus legacy 7010 and 7050 alloys, and are ideal for structures needing high strength, high toughness, and good corrosion resistance, such as integrally machined spars, ribs, fuselage frames or other thick sections. Available from 3.0 - 10in (76.2 - 254 mm), 7040 plates exhibit a low level of residual stress and superior dimensional stability.

7449 T7951

7449 alloy is an Al-Zn-Mg-Cu-Zr alloy, developed to provide an improved strength corrosion balance versus 7150 alloy. 7449 plates were designed provide an outstanding age forming capability, enabling the manufacturing of formed structures with superior dimensional tolerances at a lower cost.

  • 7449-T7951 plates were designed to exceed the strength level of 7150-T651 material, with improved corrosion resistance. 7449-T7951 plates are commonly used for high strength low to medium gauge applications, like upper wing skin panels, and are available up to 2.5in (63mm) in thickness.

  • 7449-T7651 has been designed to meet the strength level of 7150 T651, with improved corrosion resistance. 7449-T7651 plates are commonly used for medium gauge parts in need of a high strength level and are available up to 4in (100mm) in thickness.
